It’s IKI-TIME! No Kurt, not that kind of IKI! (IKI is also Japanese slang for taking a drink as a shot.) IKI is the name of a new ultra smooth shochu that we are now carrying at The Sake Shop. I know, I know … we’ve been telling everyone that we weren’t planning on stocking any shochu until our sake inventory was up to par. Well, we’re still not quite there on our sake inventory, but after recently tasting this shochu we decided to make an exception.
IKI is hands down the smoothest shochu we have ever tasted. (My apologies in advance to any shochu drinkers out there who don’t agree with my remarks but it’s true!) As flavor profiles go, this is the Kubota Manju of shochu! It goes down like water, extremely mild with a hint of pear and cinnamon. It has been officially labeled “dangerous” by myself and a few others after tasting it, “dangerous” because this stuff goes down so easily that you need to be very careful not to over do it when drinking this stuff!
IKI comes from … you guessed it, Iki Island. Created at Genkai Distilling Company in Nagasaki prefecture, it’s made from a mixture of barley and koji rice. For now this is the only exception we are making to our shochu/sake rule. Come in and pick up a bottle of IKI Shochu, you won’t be disappointed!
