MIZBASHO SAKE TASTING!
Mizbasho is a very popular sake here at the shop. The Nagai brothers put out a really good product that is both consistent and tasty!  Last year we had the opportunity to host Mr. Shoichi Nagai, President of Mizbasho Brewery. This year we are fortunate to host his brother, Mr. Noriyoshi Nagai, the head of brewery operations and Chief Production Officer of Mizbasho.

Mr. Nagai will be pouring all of their product line at the shop including their very popular sparkling sake, Mizbasho PURE.  Here’s the line up for Saturday.

Mizbasho Ginjo
Brewed using Yamada Nishiki rice milled down to 50% (Daiginjo level) this medium bodied sake has fruit aromas of pear, pistachio and cantaloupe with flavors of apple, pear and honey.  Great chilled or at room temperature.

Mizbasho Junmai Daiginjo
Rich creamy flavor with a nice balance of sweetness and acidity, this premium sake pairs well with all kinds of food including fried foods and thick sauces.

Mizbasho PURE Sparkling Sake
Created after five years of trial and error, this sparkling sake drinks just like a dry champagne.  Light, clean and refreshing, this sake pairs well with fruit such as strawberries and pears and is best served in a champagne flute.

Mizbasho Sparkling Nigori Sake
Innovative sake that combines the sparkling bubbles of champagne with the cloudy tartness of nigorizake.   Slightly sweeter than Mizbasho PURE, this sake pairs well with asian cuisines and desserts.

So please stop by this Saturday to meet Mr. Nagai and taste his wonderful sake.  Sake Sommelier Ikuko Shimizu will also be on hand to assist and help answer questions.  See you then!

Mizbasho’s founder, Mr. Shiyouzi Nagai’s quest for the perfect water to create the pefect sake led him all over Japan, eventually bringing him to Kawaba city in Gunma prefecture in 1886.  It was here that he discovered a spring with a clean, voluptuous and faintly sweet quality that gives Mizbasho it’s  elegant quality.  The current Mizbasho Brewery was built in 1994.  It incorporates modern technology to enhance their traditional craft creating the perfect fusion of ancient and modern in Japan.

Our Guest, Mr. Noriyoshi Nagai Mizbasho Chief Production Officer
Mr. Noriyoshi Nagai orginally studied architecture as a university student. His appreciation of transforming emphemeral ideas into solid structures through intelligent craftsmanship translated effortlessly into the domain of sake, making him the perfect brother to ensure that the spirit of Mizbasho lives on in every bottle produced.
