Kikusui Cans

Kikusui Cans

Most days we’re selling quite a few bottles of Ginjo and Daiginjo sake at The Sake Shop.  Obviously this is to be expected as we are a premium sake store.  However, we also stock some “just as tasty” albeit inexpensive sake products for sale as well.  One product line that we really enjoy are the Kikusui Cans!

These cans are from the same brewery in Niigata that makes your favorite blue bottled Kikusui sake.  The most popular cans are the Funaguchi Kikusui Ichiban Shibori and Jukusei Funaguchi Kikusui Ichiban Shibori.  Both are Nama Genshu, which means they’re unpasteurized and undiluted sake.  The Jukusei (red can) is cold aged for one year producing a little smoother taste.  Both of these sake are easy to drink and as with most Namazake, they are a little sweeter with a higher alcohol content than most sake.

The newer three cans come as a set.  Kikusui Karakuchi, Kikusui Junmai and Kikusui Yondaijikomi.  Karakuchi means “dry” in Japanese and is the overall flavor profile you get from this first sake.  The second can is a Junmai which is a little richer and more full bodied.  Last is the Yondaijikomi which is the sweetest of the three.  Put them all together and you have a nice variety of flavors in three convenient 200 ml cans!
