YOSHI’S SUMMER SAKE FESTIVAL

Yoshi is back for another one of his HUGE sake tastings and he’s bringing a couple of new “FIRST TIME TO HAWAII” sake to sample.  Not only that but he’s also pouring EIGHT different sake this Saturday … EIGHT!!

One new sake you don’t want to miss is Dewazakura Oka 30th Anniversary.  Most sake drinkers are familiar with Dewazakura Oka.  It is credited as being the first premium sake available for general purchase in Japan.  Well to commemorate this distinction, Dewazakura has released a special one time 30th Anniversary Oka sake with the flavor of the original Oka that was released 30 years ago!

For the first time in Hawaii we’ll also be sampling Tamagawa Tokubetsu Junmai from Philip Harper, the only foreign brewmaster in Japan.  Many of you may have already tried “Kinsho”, Harper’s high end Daiginjo.  Join us this Saturday as we take his Tokubetsu Junmai for a test drive.

One of Nadine’s favorite sake is Akitabare Suirakuten Daiginjo from Akita prefecture, which is why she is so excited about sampling the Nama or unpasteurized version this Saturday.  Sure to be a crowd pleaser, this high end Nama is also undiluted at 18% alcohol.

Here’s the lineup for this Saturday.  Bear with us, it’s a very LONG list!

DEWAZAKURA OKA “30TH ANNIVERSARY” GINJO
The original Dewazakura Oka is credited with being the first premium sake available for general purchase back in 1981. To commemorate that important event, Dewazakura has created a SPECIAL 30th Anniversary Oka that tastes like it did back when it was originally released.  Be sure to try this limited release sake with a clean taste of pear and melon and lovely aroma.

AKITABARE SUIRAKUTEN “HEAVEN OF JOYOUS DELIGHT” JUNMAI DAIGINJO NAMAGENSHU
Milled down to a teeny tiny 38%, this Junmai Daiginjo is the unpasteurized version (Nama) of Akitabare’s well known Suirakuten.  This splendid Daiginjo is released at full cask strength (18%) just three months after pressing when it’s aroma and flavor are at its fullest. Young, charismatic with a patina of refinement.

AKITABARE SHUNSETSU “SPRING SNOW” JUNMAI NAMAGENSHU
This light unpasteurized sake is seamlessly put together. Just sweet enough for sipping chilled on a warm day, with refined flavor notes that impart a delicate elegance and a finish that is pleasantly dry. The perfect namazake for summer.

TAMAGAWA “HEART OF OAK” TOKUBETSU JUNMAI
Handcrafted by the only foreign brewmaster in Japan, this signature release from British toji Philip Harper is being introduced to Hawaii FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. Nutty and toasty with a wild berry zing, this full thrusted evocation of junmai delight is in a class by itself.  Richly flavorful yet crisp-drinking and always balanced.

HOYO “KURA NO HANA”
FAIR MAIDEN JUNMAI DAIGINJO
A truly light sake with sweetness, delicacy and finesse. Transparently light and touched with a sweet kiss of anise, Hoyo’s grace and charm are irresistible.  Its lovely floral aroma and luscious flavor extend a demure invitation to the world of sake enjoyment.

MIYASAKA YAWARAKA “SAKE MATINEE” JUNMAI
This is one of those little known sake that has a very loyal following.  Quite a few people have come to our shop looking specifically for it.  It drinks so light with a low alcohol level (12%) you can have it with lunch just like a matinee.  This charming junmai has a faint taste of wild plum and represents a new direction for Japanese sake brewers.  It is smooth and gentle with sweetness and acidity in finely etched balance.

KAMOIZUMI “AUTUMN ELIXIR” JUNMAI DAIGINJO
When someone tells us they want to try something different from the usual light and fruity Daiginjo, we recommend Kamoizumi Junmai Daiginjo.  This sake possesses a full range of flavors from persimmon to caramel to earthy notes of shiitake and autumn leaves. Tartness, sweetness and astringency all converge in harmonious balance.

SEITOKU “TRAPEZA” JUNMAI GINJO
If Seitoku were any lighter it would float away on a breeze. Pirouettes in prefect balance with just enough body to support its delicate flavor.  A graceful refined sake with easy drinkability.

So please stop by the shop this Saturday, say hi to Yoshi and try some of his delicious sake.  With EIGHT different sake to sample, we’re sure you’ll find something you’ll like.
