TOHOKU SAKE TASTING PART 2

Thank you to everyone who stopped by a few weeks ago for our Tohoku Sake Tasting.  It was a great success with lots of sake from the Tohoku region being sold.  To further support Tohoku we have decided to do another sake tasting this Saturday (05/14) with five different sake from the Tohoku region.

In the announcement for our last Tohoku sake tasting we linked a video of Nanbu Bijin’s Kosuke Kuji, who asked us to drink more sake to help the Tohoku breweries. (Because most Japanese are restraining from drinking sake out of respect to what happened in Tohoku, the sake breweries there are suffering.)

Please click here to see a video of Asabiraki’s Masahiko Fujio as he too asks us to drink more Tohoku sake as a means to aid them in their recovery.

Here’s the lineup for this Saturday.

Yumeakari

IWATE PREFECTURE
Yumeakari Junmai Ginjo
“Dream Light”

Mild sake with a smooth and fruity flavor profile. Made from 100% Hitomebore rice and actually milled down to the Daiginjo level of 50%, this sake has a fragrant nose with flavors of pear and melon.

Nanburyu

IWATE PREFECTURE
Nanburyu Junmai

“Southern Stream”

Medium dry and well balanced Junmai that drinks smooth.  This sake is made from Toyo Nishiki rice that has actually been milled down to the Ginjo level of 60%. Some people taste a slight cedar or “sugi” flavor although this is not a taruzake.

Ama No To

AKITA PREFECTURE
Ama No To Tokubetsu Junmai
“Heaven’s Door”
Brewed using local Ginnose rice grown near the brewery, this tokubetsu junmai has a “ricey” aroma with flavors of fresh herbs.  It is a medium bodied sake that finishes slightly dry.

Kira

FUKUSHIMA PREFECTURE
Kira Honjozo

For all you dry sake lovers out there we give you Kira Honjozo.  Very dry sake with a sharp and refreshing flavor. SMV +15

Ken

FUKUSHIMA PREFECTURE
Ken Daiginjo

“The Sword”

Only 4,000 bottles of this highly allocated Junmai Daiginjo are produced each year.  Gorgeous aromas of melon, pears and peaches, Elegant and crisp with a beautiful finish.

So please stop by the shop this Saturday to support the Tohoku region by drinking more of their sake. We’re sure you’ll taste something you like and as always the tasting is complimentary. See you then!
