John Gauntner’s Sake Professional Course
Many of you may already be familiar with John Gauntner, otherwise known as the “Sake Guy”. John is the GURU of all things sake, and is recognized as the world’s leading non-Japanese sake expert. A long time resident of Japan, John is well known and highly respected among the Japanese sake brewers and sake industry people. His sake related accolades and achievements are just too many to mention. He’s written books, newspaper columns, received distinguished awards and many prestigious certifications. Suffice it to say, the guy knows his sake!
Last year I had the privilege of taking John’s Sake Professional Course which was held for the first time in Las Vegas. It was very important to Nadine and I that one of us receive some type of formal training prior to opening up The Sake Shop. Before attending his class I thought I already knew a lot of about sake. Boy was I wrong. John’s class was tremendous and taught me everything I needed to know about sake and then some.
The best thing about John’s class was that even though it was extremely comprehensive in content, it was very easy to follow and understand. John is a great teacher who made learning about sake enjoyable and fun. Drinking over 100+ sake during class didn’t hurt either!
John’s next Sake Professional Course is scheduled for January 2011 in Japan. As of this posting he has only 10 openings left. If any of you are interested in learning more about sake, I highly recommend taking John’s course. The fact that it is held in Japan and includes brewery trips to Kobe and Kyoto make it that much more special and unique.
