MASUMI MADNESS!

Okay, maybe it’s not exactly the same as college basketball’s “March Madness” but at least the sake is free!  Join us this Saturday for MASUMI MADNESS as we try 5 different sake from Miyasaka Brewery, the makers of Masumi sake. (And just for good measure we’ll also be sampling a 6th sake from Hoyo as well.)

Located in Nagano prefecture, Masumi is a very well known line of sake brewed by the Miyasaka family.  They produce some excellent sake in a wide range of different flavor profiles.  Everything from award winning Daiginjo such as Yumedono and Nanago to great everday sake such as Okuden Kantsukuri and Miyasaka Yamahai Nama 50.  They’ve got a sake for almost any occasion.

It is not very often that we have the opportunity to taste 5 different sake from the same brewer in this manner so please be sure to join us this Saturday (03/12) for this fun filled event.

Everyone’s favorite sake expert, Mr. Yoshiharu Suzuki of World Sake Imports, will be on hand that day to pour his his delicious sake and answer any questions you might have.

Here’s the lineup for this Saturday.

Masumi Yumedono Daiginjo
MANSION OF DREAMS
Yumedono from Nagano prefecture has a record of gold medal wins.  This sake presents an array of flavor nuances that includes peach, melon and strawberry.  Rarely does one sake combine so many taste sensations in a single cup … or finish so gloriously.  One of Malcolm’s favorites.

Masumi Nanago Yamahai Junmai Daiginjo
SEVENTH HEAVEN
Brewed in the old school “Yamahai” method using Masumi’s own Yeast #7 and local Miyama Nishiki rice, Nanago has a mild fragrance and a full bodied flavor with well balanced acidity and a clean finish.  One of Nadine’s favorites.

Miyasaka Yamahai 50 Nama
LAST RIDE HOME
An interesting contrast of flavors make up this Yamahai (Old School Method) Nama (Unpastuerized) Ginjo.  The fresh zing of the Nama is balanced well with the earthiness from the Yamahai method.

Masumi Yamahai Ginjo
TANGLEWOOD
Brewed using the old school Yamahai method, this sake has well balanced acidity and a rich mature flavor that ends in a breathtakingly clean finish.

Masumi Junmai Okuden Kantsukuri
MIRROR OF TRUTH
Masumi’s ideal Junmai that we recommend quite often. Mellow and mild mannered in all aspects with subtle organic flavors and a hint of rice’s sweetness.

Hoyo Manamusume Junmai
FARMER’S DAUGTHER
The only sake at this tasting not from Miyasaka, Hoyo Manamusume is from Miyagi prefecture and is brewed using rare local Manamusume rice.  Mild and soft with a slightly dry finish, this Junmai is perfect as an everyday sake that you’ll never get tired of.
