Justin Pounding Mochi 2010

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Akemashite Omedeto Gozaimasu! Happy New Year to everyone from The Sake Shop!  We managed to survive the holidays (just barely) and are looking forward to a wonderful 2011.  To kick things off with a *BANG* it’s time for our first complimentary sake tasting of the year.

Join us this Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm and sample a variety of different sake including a sparkling and two premium Daiginjo.  Sake Sommelier, Ikuko Shimizu and Better Brands Representative Kevin Tsuji will be on hand to pour sake and answer any questions you might have.

Here’s the lineup for this Saturday.

Chiyomusubi Daiginjo Tobin Gakoi Shizuku
This is a very special sake.  Instead of being machined pressed like most sake, this one is “dripped pressed” from hanging cotton bags.  Only the sake that drips out from “gravity” is collected in 18-liter bottles (Tobin), and then only the best of the batch is separated (Gakoi) and bottled for sale. Definitely one to try.

Konteki Daiginjo “Tears of Dawn”
This sake in the cool “squat” bottle is relatively new to Hawaii and has quickly become a customer favorite.  SEE DESCRIPTION BELOW.

Chiyomusubi “Ryo” Junmai Ginjo Karakuchi
The infamous cool “twisty” blue bottle always grabs your attention on the shelve.  SEE DESCRIPTION BELOW.

Amo No To Tokubetsu Junmai “Heaven’s Door”
From up North in Akita prefecture, Ama No To is made using Ginnossei rice grown right on the brewery property. Spicy aromas of fruit and herbs lead into a medium bodied sake with flavors of green apple that finishes slightly dry.  Heavenly!

Ozeki Hana Awaka Sparkling Sake
This refreshing sparkling sake brings your taste buds alive with a cheerful balance of bursting sweetness, bright fruit flavors and tangy bubbles.  Many people compare it to a Prosecco.

So please stop by this Saturday for our first sake tasting of the year.  It’s complimentary as always and a great way to start off the New Year.

Chiyomusubi Ryo Junmai Ginjo Karakuchi

Chiyomusubi Ryo Junmai Ginjo Karakuchi

Chiyomusubi “Ryo” Junmai Ginjo Karakuchi
“Oooooh, what a cool looking bottle!” We hear that everyday
at the shop as soon as someone comes across a bottle of Ryo.
This dry Junmai Ginjo from Chiyomusubi comes in a cool
looking twisted blue bottle that always grabs people’s attention.
Ryo has an aroma of muscat grapes with a medium body.
It finishes dry with a nice subtle bitterness.

Konteki Daiginjo "Tears of Dawn"

Konteki Daiginjo "Tears of Dawn"

Konteki Daiginjo “Tears of Dawn”
From one of Japan’s smallest breweries we bring you
Konteki Daiginjo or “Tears of Dawn”.  The first thing you
notice about Konteki is the cool “squat” looking bottle it
comes in.  Noticeable shorter than most 720ml sake
bottles, this tasty Daiginjo is highly allocated with only
1,400 6-bottle cases being produced each year.
Complex aromas and flavors of anise, banana and asian
pear with a long clean finish.  Konteki has quickly become
a favorite at the shop.
